If you have problems with your hot water supply, our engineers will be able to carry out checks on your existing system and advise on the necessary parts or maintenance required.
Vented systems are the more traditional systems where there is a cold water header tank within the property, usually located high up and often in the loft. In these systems the cold water is fed to the hot water cylinder by a gravity system. Cold water is heated either directly by an immersion heater within the cylinder or indirectly by the central heating boiler.
Vented systems operate at a lower pressure and are more simple in their construction, and for this reason tend to be cheaper than unvented equivalents. As they are lower pressure systems, this will result in a lower water flow.
Unvented water systems operate from cold mains water and have a better flow rate due to mains pressure. These systems do not require a cold water storage tank, which is ideal where space is limited and offers more flexibility in deciding where to locate the cylinder.
Unvented systems are required to have expansion vessels fitted to allow the expansion of heated water in the system. They also have safety mechanisms including pressure relief valves. Both of these fundamental parts can go wrong over time and with a lack of maintenance. Our engineers will be able to pinpoint the source of the problem with your hot water supply and advise on whether you can simply replace a part, or if a bigger scale of repair is required.
Depending on your needs and desires, your choice of hot water system is personal to you. For example, if you are considering replacing your electric shower with a mains-fed alternative, an unvented system would provide a better solution and a more powerful shower. Our engineers can advise what best suits your needs.
